I am still in the process of putting together a FAQ. I will add questions as I get them, if anybody wants to contribute towards this then please do send in your solutions.
What are the GTA2 logo's in the game for?
I don't have enough respect to do a mission.
How do I save my progress?
I can't seem to get to the next level.
The cars are way faster than in GTA, I can't control them.
The game crashes for no reason.
Playing online is really slow and laggy.
How do I make a GTA2 LAN game?
If you collect all of the logo's you get a secret bonus level when you have completed that city. Press F6 to see how many you have got, and how many remain.
Respect is everything. In the top left of your screen there is 3 respect-o-meters. Under each are three lights, green, yellow and red. Each gang has 3 sets of missions, you need to get the corresponding level of respect to the missions from those phones (colour coded). To gain respect you have to kill members of the gang next down in the respect-o-meters.
Take your GTA2 manual and turn to page 5, it is at the bottom, entitled "SAVING THE GAME". If, you can't be bothered to reach for the manual you can do the tutorial mission on the first level (the first phone you see).
TIP: Follow the satellite dishes on the TV vans.
Hit F6 and it will tell you your target score. You need to make that score before you can exit. Once you have a red arrow will appear, follow that.
GTA2 is a lot faster. They are supposed to be. According to DMA GTA only played at the correct speed if you run it through 3DFX mode. You should try it, then you will see how easy GTA2 is to control.
If you simply can't control them, then you should consider giving your game to somebody else. The game is fast, you have to have fast reactions to play games.
There are many reasons for this. The most likely solution is to go into the Audio tab of the GTA2 Manager and uncheck '3D Sound'. If this doesn't help you should try closing all background programs down. To do this hit Ctrl + Alt + Del and end each program until you are left with Explorer and Systray.
That is life. Chances are your connection is still analogue. Modems (modulator demodulator) can't cope with the amount of data GTA2 requires each computer to communicate. Each computer has to know each and every car on each players screen (and the buffer) plus all pedestrians. This amount of data is just too much to get through the phone lines without people noticing.
You will need to get a heavy weight digital line. May I suggest you look at something called E3 or T3, they are fast, just a tad on the expensive side.
Your network will either run on TCP/IP or IPX. If you are running TCP/IP select Internet for Direct Play, and then click Start Network game. Then continue with the details in the GTA2 manual for starting a game. The people who join into your game have to enter the hosts (your) IP address into the protocol connection box before clicking Start Network Game.
If you run winipcfg.exe from the Windows Run dialogue that will tell you your IP address.
Do the same if running an IPX network, just make sure you select IPX in the protocol box, and nobody has to enter anything into the Protocol Connection box.
